Research
If you care to look at my CV, you'll notice that my undergraduate degree was a B.S. in Accounting from St. John's University (Minn.). I hold Masters and PhD degrees in English, and I teach in a Computing and New Media Technologies Department within a college of Letters & Science. That's no coincidence: Letters & Science belong together.
My senior year, I coerced one of my English teachers into letting me do an independent study on using interactive tools to teach introductory literature and poetry. I used a Commodore Amiga and a very early version of Director to build two modules from the ground up. The experience had me hooked on the world of multimedia and interactive design, and I haven't looked back since.
With a liberal education, though, my background and interests are quite varied. Currently I'm interested in the following research areas:
- Web Content Management System Courses
- The role of civic engagement in higher education
- The role of digital literacy in sustaining healthy communities
- Rapid usability testing employing ethnographic research methodologies
- The use of Lean Six Sigma (LSS) as a Web project management process
- The general role of technology classroom and adult learning environments
- Second Life and the broader role of the metaverse in the classroom
- Second Life - Classroom Observations (C&W Presentation)
- Online persona
- The evolution and resurgence of online marketing and ecommerce, including viral marketing and related topics
- Experiment One: Selling a POD Cookbook
- Experiment Two: Soliciting a logo redesign
