Internships
For Fall 2010, the following internships are tenatively in the works:
- Community Foundation of Greater South Wood County - Knight Community Information Challenge (Wisconsin Rapids)
- Specialized Computer Systems
I have supervised or helped facilitate student internships with the following organizations:
- Association for Business Communication
- Community Care of Central Wisconsin (3 internships)
- Community Foundation of Greater South Wood County
- The Green Co (Plover, Wisc.)
- Greenwood Hills Country Club (Wausau)
- Jockey International
- Language of Dance Center, USA
- Marshfield Foundation (2 internships)
- Newman Center - UWSP
- Open Source Support Desk (Stevens Point and various, 2 internships)
- Odney
- Point Brewery (2 internships)
- Portage County Government Center
- Renaissance Learning
CIS and WDMD majors have also interned at places like City University of London, Liberty Mutual, Pointe Precision, Skyward, and Sentry Insurance.
If you are interested in a WDMD internship, and have completed coursework in the major at least through WDMD 250 and 270, please contact me. Be prepared with at least some tentative answers to these questions:
- What kind of organization are you interested in working for? Corporate? Agency? Non-profit?
- Do you have other skillsets or interests that you want to try and take advantage of?
- What WDMD skills do you want to emphasize the most? Flash? Interaction design?
You should also have a solid draft of your resume for us to review at the very least. Ideally you should have a complete and polished portfolio of your work.
The most successful internship searches are very focused ones, just like the most successful job searches. Even if you don't have perfect answers to the questions above, they provide a good place to start the conversation.
