Google Gears to Speed up Joomla Admin
If you're like me, one of the things that drives me craziest about Joomla is the slowness of the administrative screens. I seem to spend a lot of time waiting for pages to load.
Phil Taylor has created a plug-in that uses Google Gears to greatly speed things up. It's available for free download and is the same concept as the Google Gears enhancement that is available for WordPress sites.
Once you download and install it, all you need to do is enable the plugin. The plugin will add an Update Google Gears link next to the Preview in the upper righthand corner of the screen. Select it, and you'll update all of your local Google Gears files. The documentation says that's about 600 files. For my site, it was closer to 2,200 files.
I've been using Google Gears briefly on the site, and the improvement is remarkable.
