Joomla FAQs - Components

I just learned that Docman 1.5 is available, and runs in native mode. How exciting! Here's my log of how the upgrade went, as close to real-time as possible.

Purchase Docman: Easy, and no issues.

Uninstall old version of Docman:

Uninstall of core Docman went well. Don't forget to also install any modules or plug-ins that you're using.

Ready to install:

Everything looks good on the back-end. Now for some front-end testing. Note that I'm still running in Legacy mode.

Testing:

So far so good. Interface is so much cleaner.

I was also concerned with my SEF404 component and whether or not I would at least have to clear the link cache. No worries here, either.

Next step is to turn on some of the modules that I was using to share popular files.

Native mode:

Legacy mode is off, finally. More testing, but it looks like everything was successful.

My only problem: The site and the download mentioned modules. I really wanted to keep my 'top downloads' on the home page, but it looks like the team has a bunch of cleanup to do on their FAQs and repository. Everything circles back to the 1.4 release of Docman. Bummer.

See this FAQ for how to add modules using DOCman 1.5. It's a much improved approach over 1.4 and very easy to do.
